He’s always there for his friends—sometimes belligerently, but there nevertheless, and no matter how scared he may be, he will put aside his fears to support and protect the people he loves. “You’re strong Peeta, maybe you can win”
“Yeah, maybe I can,” says Peeta, although he can see Ron’s not convinced. He can also see the tears threatening to pour out of his best friend’s eyes.
He had never seen Ron cry before. Hadn’t even imagined the possibility. He hated the thought of his best friend in pain and he wanted so much for him to be happy. He wanted his smile to be the last thing he saw before he left the district, possibly forever. So he adds, in a soft, voice “Hey, just promise you won’t eat all the cakes in the bakery while I’m gone, okay?”
Ron laughs, though the smile doesn’t quite reach his eyes. “I can’t make any promises.”
